Position Summary

The Laboratory Triage Tech Per Diem performs technical laboratory procedures, analyzes data, and reports results to be used for the diagnosis and treatment of disease resulting in the provision of quality patient care and to assure and improve laboratory customer satisfaction. Prepares specimens for referred testing; maintains documentation. Validates specimen identification and appropriateness of sample type and size; processes specimens according to handling protocols defined in section manuals. Performs and documents the scheduled centrifuge, printer and refrigerator maintenance to ensure proper functioning of equipment, according to the detailed written procedures documented in the procedure manual. Troubleshoots equipment problems and make minor repairs when applicable, by consulting the equipment manuals and manager. Monitors and investigates interface issues with reference laboratories and notifies manager as appropriate.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Performs clinical and/or anatomic laboratory activities which, under the direction of licensed personnel, results in quality testing data on clinical specimens, and /or the accurate procurement of blood samples, as well as preparing/dispensing blood products.
  • Consistently applies infection control policies/procedures.
  • Attends department education/training in-services.
  • Participates in specific performance improvement projects.
  • Performs equipment maintenance, QC, preventative maintenance functions.
  • Accurately communicates test results to appropriate clinical personnel.
  • Performs pre-analytic functions.
  • Performs analytic functions where judgement is not required.
  • Performs data management activities/documentation.
 
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • Laboratory experience desirable
  • Good customer service skills
  • Medical Terminology desired.
  • Must be able to use word and excel.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Phlebotomy Certification, as issued according to Business and Professional Codes of the State of California may be required.
  • High School Graduate.

Position includes some weekdays and alternating weekend coverage.
