SUMMARY

The X-Ray Technician/Medical Assistant performs radiological duties in compliance with x-ray department and legal requirements. Help patients feel comfortable during entire process. Perform medical assisting and administrative/clerical duties that assist in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management under the direction of a physician.

REQUIREMENTS

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

· Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.

· Take Radiographic images while performing a diagnostic imaging examination.

· Positioning may require maneuvering, turning and lifting patients with limited mobility. The technician places the imaging equipment at the correct height and angle relative to the patient's body to produce the radiograph needed.

· Take other measurements to determine the minimum effective amount of radiation needed to gather the appropriate images and set the controls accordingly.

· Explains the x-ray procedure to the patients.

· Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary.

· Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential.

· Counsels patients by transmitting physician's orders and questions.

· Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.

· Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing supply requisitions verifying receipt.

· Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.

· Serves and protects the medical practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.

· Document patient’s height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure

· Report changes in patient’s physical status to the lead provider on duty.

· Review and record medical history including current medications.

· Perform phlebotomy and basic laboratory tests; prepare specimens for transport to laboratory.

· Administer injections.

· Assist in minor procedures.

· Review physician orders, lab requests or follow-up needs with patients.

· Maintain supplies and cleanliness of examination rooms.

· Ensure maintenance of patient confidentiality.

· Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills in the performance of work assignments and duties.

· Performs other duties as requested.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

· Medical Assistant Certificate required

· 1 year experience preferred as a Medical Assistant/X-ray Tech or CRT

· Limited/Basic/NCT/LMRT permit in Radiology or CRT permit in Radiology

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

· Must be familiar with EHR/EMR system.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Minimum of 6 months of experience is preferred

· Spanish bilingual is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Body Positions: Sitting and standing for prolonged periods.

2. Body Movements: Arm and hand dexterity.

3. Body Senses: Must have command of close and distant sight, color perception and hearing.

4. Strength: Ability to lift and move up to 25-pounds.

Working Environment:

1. Work in an office, where the climate is controlled

2. Occasional travel between medical groups and/or hospitals when necessary. 0-25 % of the time.

3. OSHA exposure category: I

a. Category I – Position includes tasks that involve exposure to Blood borne Pathogens.

b. Category II – Position includes tasks that do not have exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, however employment may require unplanned Category I tasks.

c. Category III – Positions includes tasks that do not involve exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens. This position would not be required to perform Category I tasks.

  • X-Ray Technician in Urgent Care: 3 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:
