Full Job Description

We are looking for an Emergency Department Technician for the Emergency Department at St. Mary Medical Center.

Location: Apple Valley, CA

Work Schedule: Full time - 72 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 12-hour, Evenings

Job Summary:

Under minimal supervision, operates cardiac ultrasound equipment to produce optimal echocardiograph images for diagnostic evaluation of chamber measurements, blood flow characteristics, and cardiac function for adult and geriatric patients.

Essential Functions:

  • Reports any observed changes in patient's condition, behavior and vital signs to a registered nurse in a timely manner.
  • Provides direct patient care under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.
  • Stocks patient care area with appropriate supplies.
  • Assists in the transfer and discharge processing of patients.
  • Answers patients call lights and responds appropriately and promptly.
  • Applies splints. Prepares and administers dressings to the patient.
  • Performs EKG’s. Monitors and records cardiac rhythms. Takes and monitors vital signs.
  • Assists the physician with procedures; i.e. pelvic examinations, suturing etc.
  • Documents patient’s charts.
  • Assists Emergency Department Assistants with order entry, answering telephones, and breaking down charts.
  • Assists in patient hygiene.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills:

  • Clinical knowledge and skill, or ability to develop knowledge and skills required for specialty areas as specified in unit performance standards.
  • Environmental Orientation within 30 days of hire
  • ED Tech competency within 90 days of hire
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Basic Arrhythmia Certification within 6 months of hire

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Education: H.S. Diploma or GED.

Experience:

  • 1 year Acute care experience.
  • Training as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, EMT or Paramedic.

Licenses/Certifications: Current Phlebotomy Certificate - preferred.
