Position Information

As the primary staff administrative officer and advisor for the Associated Students at UCR (ASUCR), the Executive Director provides administrative, fiscal, supervisory, advising and programmatic leadership for the student government-managed services, activities, programs and projects on an on-going, year to year basis for both the Graduate and Undergraduate students. Acts as a representative and liaison in both daily operations and in often highly sensitive situations between students and the campus. Works in conjunction with the ASUCR accounting office to insure fiscal responsibility and management. Has responsibility for overseeing the general operations of ASUCR, the Graduate Student Association (GSA), and the official student newspaper, The Highlander. Constantly communicating with all student leaders and staff on operational questions and processes. Advisor to 100+ elected/appointed students within the ASUCR, GSA and Highlander Newspaper departments. Manages 2.0 FTE staff direct reports and additional 2.0 FTE staff indirect reports. Manages an annual operating budget of $2.5M involving multiple fund sources. The budgeted salary amount for this position is up to $110,000/yr.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Strong leadership skills to motivate employees and influence attitudes and behaviors.
Strong skills in active listening, critical thinking, negotiation, reasoning, organizing, written and verbal communication; multitasking and intercultural competence and uses these skills to develop original ideas to solve problems.
Strong knowledge in legislation including written and interpreting bylaws
Working knowledge of a University newspaper
Advanced knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization.
Advanced knowledge of risk assessment principles along with the ability to evaluate risks and the likelihood of consequences.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs Skills in monitoring/assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements.

Strong knowledge of University and departmental policies, processes, and procedures.

Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization.

Knowledge of risk assessment principles along with the ability to evaluate risks and the likelihood of consequences.

Knowledge of Robert's Rules of Order/Parliamentary Procedures
