Patient Access Coordinator
The Patient Access Specialist/Coordinator (PAS) demonstrates a solid knowledge of the registration process. PAS Specialist is responsible for obtaining all accurate demographic and financial information, completing any and all registrations. Corrects selection of insurance coding and insurance descriptions using tools such as the Rolodex in SMS, Matrixes for contracted medical groups and the Internet; completes all Status Transfers; ensures correct room placement for patients; and runs and accepts the HDX reports on all insurances that apply. Additionally, this role obtains and ensures that all necessary notification, authorizations, verification of benefits and tracking numbers for all accounts/insurances are obtained.
Essential Job Duties:
Knowledge of medical terminology
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and non-verbally
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact diplomatically and to maintain a professional demeanor with physicians, the public and hospital staff at all times
Ability to discuss personal and financial matters with patients and/or their representatives.
Good problem solving and process efficiency skills
Knowledge of insurance benefits, covered services and collection procedures for all insurance programs for acute facilities
General knowledge of office procedures and ability to utilize resources in an organized manner
Type 35-40 words per minute
Knowledge of computer keyboard
Qualifications
High School graduate or equivalent preferred
CPI Certification within the first 90 days
