Full Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Supervising Counselor, the AOD Counselor is responsible for delivering programming services to the participants by delivering face-to-face rehabilitative programming services provided in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver programming services to the participants;
  • Conduct group and/or individual sessions by utilizing motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and other therapeutic processes;
  • Evaluate and document the progress of particpants assigned to their groups;
  • Develop treatment plans with participants that is collaborative, individualized, and responsive to all parties changing needs.
  • Document treatment outcome using acceptable methods and tools;
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential participant records by documenting the delivery of programming services in ARMS;
  • Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectation for participations and completion;
  • Protect and maintain program participant's health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.
  • Adhere to the scheduled program curriculum
  • Work collaboratively with CDCR/CCHCS and institutional staff.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavioral in order to maintain professional standards and adhering to professional, certification or license, organizational, and CDCR requirements..
  • Maintain appropriate and professional boundaries between staff and all participants.
  • Attends and actively participates in all required staff training sessions in accordance with Phoenix House, state licensing requirements, and CDCR requirements and completes all training on time
  • Attends and participates in program and all staff meetings
  • Adheres to and promotes the Phoenix House Mission, Vision, and Values while acting as a role model for others
  • Understand and appropriately apply Phoenix House policies and procedure, and adhere to agency-wide practices and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CREDENTIALS
The minimum qualifications for the AOD Counselor classifications are as follows:
Journey Clinician
A Journey Clinician must meet one (1) of the following minimum requirements:

  • A Master's Degree in a social service-related field and registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency in MS Office systems
  • Ability to utilize an electronic healthcare record
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced changing environment
  • Ability to establish and consistently enforce appropriate boundaries with patients
  • Ability to model positive behavior and demeanor
  • Understanding of addiction, co-occurring models, and treatment modalities
  • Understanding of patient development and family systems
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to be flexible; problem solver, self-directed; customer service-oriented, and collaborative
  • Skills and ability to engage and develop a rapport with patients and families of various backgrounds
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred'
