Job Overview:

STC Gerry House, a pioneer in the field of substance abuse recovery since 1990, is seeking Behavioral Healthcare Technicians (“BHT”). As a BHT, you'll play a crucial role in our team. Your responsibilities will include understanding and implementing individual treatment planning, documenting client behavior, and creating a safe, supportive environment for clients. You also document client medications and assist with daily therapeutic or recreational activities. Critical skills for this role include interpersonal and observational skills, physical stamina, and the ability to coordinate client passes, meetings, and health and safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for completing intake forms, facility orientation, and program rules and regulations for a continuum of care and assisting clients in coordinating aftercare planning.
  • Conduct intake and admission duties under the supervision of the intake coordinator.
  • Assess client needs and follow up to ensure vocational and legal needs are being met (organize and facilitate disability, social security, paperwork, etc.).
  • Responsible for interacting with court and probation.
  • Assist clients with getting to court, probation, or other required outside agencies. Provide or arrange client transportation to appointments as needed.
  • Monitor the client’s money, phase allowance, and compliance with money protocol.
  • Maintains appropriate records such as ongoing progress notes, reports to referring agencies, discharge summaries, recovery planning, and clinical case records.
  • Monitor and supervise facility upkeep, safety, cleanliness, hygiene standards, client confidentiality, and security.
  • Facilitate patient education groups as assigned by the Program Supervisors.
  • Responsible for all required reports and documents to internal and external sources. Completes all the necessary documentation according to set timeframes with accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Monitor client schedules and activities. Conduct regular rounds throughout the shift, accounting for each client.
  • Answer phones and direct calls. Complete the shopping for the house supplies as directed by the Operations Supervisor.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent care information to protect client rights.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with clients, staff, peers, supervisors, and families. Fully understands and maintains policies regarding professional ethics, including appropriate boundaries and client and company confidentiality.
  • Ability to demonstrate respect for cultural competency.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold current registration or certification recognized by DHCS as an accredited organization to register and certify alcohol and other drug counselors in California.
  • Be in good standing with the educational requirements for becoming an alcohol and drug counselor in California.
  • At least two years of counseling experience preferred.
  • One year experience or equivalent field placement work providing direct services to a substance-abusing population.
  • Ability to supervise, guide, and counsel adult clients, maintain case management procedures and participate in program and client activities and operations.
  • Engaged and service-oriented professional who can collaborate individually.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Proven relationship-building skills to support collaboration and partnership activities.
  • Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships at all levels of the agency, internal and external.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Job Types: Full-time (Swing & Night shift)

Compensation: $22.00 - $23.00 per hour (competency-based)
