Job Title: Cardiac Sonographer
Target Compensation Range: $50.00/per CASE

SUMMARY: The Cardiac Sonographer will be responsible for performing echocardiograms, applying cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images, and providing patient care and education. They will also need to obtain cardiovascular images that assist physicians in diagnosing and treating heart disease and other vascular conditions.

The ideal candidate should have the skills to assess cardiac pathology including congenital heart disease, valvular heart disease, coronary heart disease and pericardial disease.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Performing cardiac ultrasound examinations including 2D, Doppler, and color flow mapping. The clinics are in San Diego and Orange County.
  • Assessing patient condition, comfort and safety during procedures, and explaining the sonogram procedure to them. Performing cardiac sonograms, also known as echocardiograms, to capture images of the heart’s chambers, valves, vessels and wall segments
  • Using Doppler ultrasound to observe blood flow through the heart
  • Recognizing normal and abnormal echocardiographic findings
  • Assessing patients’ health status and alerting physicians to changes
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and adhering to patient confidentiality rules
  • Updating technical knowledge and skills through continuous education programs
  • Preparing preliminary echocardiographic reports
  • Preparation and maintenance of sonographic equipment, inform clinic staff to maintain adequate supplies
  • Maintaining ultrasound equipment and work area, and Assisting with the quality improvement process
  • Collaborating with physicians and other healthcare providers to deliver care and assure patient satisfaction
  • Regular and consistent attendance
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a cardiovascular lab.
  • Extensive knowledge of cardiac disease and cardiac hemodynamics.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and patient care skills.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related health field is preferred, but not required.
  • Can travel between clinics (Orange County and San Diego) preferred, but not required.
