TITLE: Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor (CADC) ;
STATUS: Exempt/ Regular Full Time
REPORTS TO: Director of Dual Diagnosis Program & Program Manager
REPORTING STAFF: None

JOB SUMMARY:
Working under the direct supervision and guidance of the Program Manager, the Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor (CADC), orientates each client to the program rules, expectations, intent, and routine of the daily treatment schedule. This position requires a strong knowledge of appropriate personal and clinical boundaries, a passionate attitude, and the ability to deal with difficult, uncertain, and stressful situations in a positive and appropriate manner. Must understand the therapeutic process, confidentiality laws, professional ethics, fundamentals of addiction, chemical dependency, and the 12-step philosophy. Must be able to demonstrate leadership abilities, and be able to work with and communicate with persons from all educational and cultural backgrounds.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Follow the Trauma Informed Care philosophy when supporting and addressing the needs of the children and families Maryvale serves.
Utilize Trauma Informed Care approach in recognizing the presence of trauma symptoms and acknowledge the role that trauma has played in the lives of the clients/residents.
Assist in the healing process by developing appropriate RICH® (Respect, Information, Connection and Hope) relationships with those served.
Follow Universal Precautions when exposed to blood and body fluids.
Follow Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) regulations pertaining to safety and the use of equipment/machinery.
Provides supervision and facilitation of daily program activities and support the day to day function of Maryvale’s IOP program.
Must understand the therapeutic process, confidentiality laws, professional ethics, fundamentals of addiction, chemical dependency, and the 12-step philosophy.
Co-Facilitate Relapse Prevention Groups with facilitating therapist.
Must be able to demonstrate leadership abilities, and be able to work with and communicate with persons from all educational and cultural backgrounds.
Provide a complete and comprehensive orientation for new clients to program rules, handbook, expectations, treatment plan, and areas needed for assistance within the first 48 hours of admission.
Administer Urine Analysis (UA); perform proper storage of the sample; accurately complete information in EHR; assure proper transferring of UA sample to the appropriate testing authority.
Keep current progress notes (as assigned) and daily shift report to all clinical team.
Conduct weekly, unannounced searches on all client belongings, all non-residential areas within facilities, building and on all outside grounds; document searches.
Perform all client day-to-day duties including assisting clients with Activities for Daily Living.
Oversee clients' recreational activities, transport clients to A.A. meetings, medical appointments, and other functions as requested by supervisor.
Maintain detailed notes of all incidents occurring during the shift and complete the appropriate Critical Incident Report promptly.
Attend counselor supervision sessions as scheduled with Clinical Director.
Attend and participate in in-service training and other training as directed by management.
Must maintain current, required certifications such as CPR and First Aid.
Maintain licensing and renewal responsibilities.
Assist clients with self-administration of medication.
Keep up with all email correspondence during scheduled work days.
Maintain contact with families when necessary, via email and/or follow-up phone intelligibly and accurately with the clinical team in the process of scheduling assessments for IOP/IIHBS programs.
Support Maryvale’s Performance and Quality Improvement Plan and participate in discussion regarding department or program goals, data collection and/or analysis.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

PROGRAM

To facilitate and maintain an alcohol and drug-free environment that is non-judgmental, safe and supportive
Support in intakes, ASAM Placement Criteria, Assessments, treatment and discharge planning: to facilitate individual counseling, group process sessions, educational sessions
To perform drug tests as needed. To make available and document client medications as required.
To maintain participant charts, participate in chart case review, case collaborations.
Attend staff meetings and trainings
To provide support in case management assisting individuals with needed resources (housing, medical and mental health services, transportation, vocational and employment development, legal services, sobriety support networks,)
Work in collaboration with Intake Coordinator, Clinical Team, Referral Units and community resources.
Responsible for ensuring the timely preparation and submission of reports related to the Dual Diagnosis program when requested.
Build and maintain healthy, productive professional relationships with clients and their families.
Set and observe appropriate boundaries; safeguard client confidentiality and abide by HIPAA laws and standards.

GENERAL ADMINISTRATION

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor (CADC), supports the day-to-day operations of the program.
Orients each client to the program rules, expectations, intent, and routine of the daily treatment schedule.
Keep notes on clients daily in EHR database.
Email shift reports to clinical staff daily.
Maintain detailed notes of all incidents occurring during the shift and complete the appropriate Critical Incident Report promptly.
SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONS
Position will require evening hours availability to meet clients’ needs
Maintain consistent attendance to meet the needs of the program.

QUALIFICATIONS

Current CADC or greater certification with an AA degree in a related field.
Minimum 1-year experience in the substance use and mental health industry.
Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred
Experience working in a Residential or PHP/IOP level of care.
Advanced knowledge in the field of substance use, mental health, and provision of clinical services.
Effective interpersonal skills and expertise working with adolescents and families, specifically those with histories of substance use and mental health concerns.
Demonstrates a high level of cultural competence, sensitivity, and responsiveness.
Computer proficiency and ability to input appropriate notes in a database.
Excellent written and communication skills with team and clients.
Certification in First Aid/CPR.
2 years of sobriety if in recovery.

The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Associate may occasionally be required to drive a motor vehicle.

1 to 3 years of service - 10 working days per year
4 to 7 years of service - 15 working days per year
8 years or more of service - 20 working days per year

Sick Time - Associates accrue sick time at 1 hour for each 28.9 hours of work.

Life Insurance - Maryvale pays for a basic Life & Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance Policy that pays beneficiaries a flat $25,000 death benefit.

401(k) Pension Plan - Associates are eligible to enroll in the 401(k) Retirement Plan on the first day of the month after their hire date.

Match of Employee Contributions: After completing one year of service, Maryvale will match 100% of an Associate’s salary deferral up to a maximum of the first 3% (1%-3%). In addition, Maryvale will match 66% of an Associate’s salary deferral up to a maximum of the next 3% (3%-6%).
Non-Elective Contribution: After an Associate completes one full year of service, Maryvale on the Associate’s behalf, will begin making a fixed non-elective contribution equal to 3% of the Associate’s income. This contribution is separate from the matching contribution and vests over a 5 year period.

Long Term Disability Insurance - Maryvale offers Long Term Disability Insurance to all benefits-eligible Associates at no cost to the Associate. Maryvale pays the full premium for these benefits which provide salary protection in the event an Associate becomes disabled for an extended period of time.
