WHAT YOU’LL DO

Create Clarity
The Controller role is critical to the strategic health of our portfolio of businesses. Everything you‘ll do—including, but not limited to, maintaining the accuracy and productivity of day to day activities of accounts payable, customer credits and collections, fixed asset records, general & legal entity accounting, taxes, variance analysis, and working with outside CPAs—all support greater clarity on our financial position and health. Whew, that was a long sentence.

Push Solutions
We’re looking for a strategically minded, and technically proficient Controller who is able to manage multiple companies—aka, this ain’t your first rodeo and you probably don’t prefer to drive in the slow lane. Storyland has a number of entities within its portfolio and you’ll be exploring solutions, making improvements and optimizing processes across all of those entities.
Nurture Relationships Relationships are a big deal to us. We treat our clients like close friends and our co-workers like family, family that we like, that is. Our core values reflect and support this approach and everyone
in the organization is expected to live into those values and nurture relationships as we collaborate and work with one another.

Grow Forward
You’ll have the opportunity to build on what we’ve done and shape the future of our accounting processes. Within that, we’ll expect and support your growth. We’re hiring for someone who will roll up their sleeves and add value on day one, but we also believe in the potential of every employee. Our organization is in an exciting time of growth, and this position is a big priority. Help us grow and grow with us.

WHAT SUCCESS WILL LOOK LIKE

For day-to-day success, you will…
  • Exhibit flexibility, kindness, and a willingness to learn. Yep, that’s the top of the list!
  • Be comfortable in ambiguity and shaping “something” into something extraordinary without paint-by-number instructions.
  • Perform your daily accounting job functions with consistency and follow through.
  • Get to know and support the accounting team.
  • Ensure the books close with quality and on-time, every-time.
  • Use your agility and curious mind to respond to new challenges in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment.
For success in your first six months, you will…
  • Take initiative in getting to know the folks you work with outside of the accounting team (welcome to a Zoom world).
  • Be able to close books monthly for each company successfully and have accrual financial statements with analysis prepared
  • The CFO and others on your team have a growing confidence that your work is reliable and done the way we need it to be.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE PARTY

Skills and Qualifications
  • You like forests, but you love trees (detail-orientation is a must).
  • You love people and numbers. That doesn’t mean you’re an extrovert or the life of the party, but it does mean that you’re a team player, you’re humble, hungry, and servant-hearted.
  • You have active work experience that showcases the skillset required to do the work.
  • You think accrual accounting and revenue recognition sounds fun.
  • You have multiple years of accounting experience under your belt.
  • You have experience in working with multiple entities at the same time. We have quite a few.
  • Your excel skills are strong with the force.
  • You see feedback as a means to growth, rather than criticism.
  • You’re a quick student—especially of new software.
  • You have a growing interest in the themed entertainment and attraction industry (for Storyland Studios clients).
  • You’ll be comfortable working with cause-based and Christian, faith-based clientele (for PlainJoe clients).
  • You have a bachelor’s degree.
  • You’re fluent in English—equally able to write or present.
  • You’re a self-starter and time zone flexible since you’ll likely be working from home and in a different time zone than other team members.
Preferred Skillset
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, specifically.
  • You have experience with Quickbooks online.
  • You have proven knowledge of financial forecasting and advanced computer skills in MS Office
