Job Title: Emergency Department Abstractor

Job Summary: The ED Abstractor is responsible for accurately abstracting and coding clinical and billing data from electronic health records (EHRs) to validate and assign charges for all patients seen in the emergency rooms as well as observation services. The types of services to be abstracted include E&M levels, bedside procedures and infusions/injections. The function is supported by integrated software with the EMR.

Qualifications:

• Associate degree in Health Information Management, Medical Coding or related field
• Certified medical coder with hospital experience, CPC, CCS or equivalent certification
• Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, and PC (computer) skills.

Education:

• Associates Degree in Health Information Management, Medical Coding or a related field.

License/Certifications:

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or other equivalent certification.
