Title: Front Office Clerk/Front Office Medical Assistant

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:

FRONT OFFICE

  • Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
  • To support the provider by providing caring, personalized and efficient handling of patients, medical records, supply management and other duties as assigned.
  • Keeps patient appointments on schedule by verifying patient insurance benefits and eligibility prior to the appointment; reminding patients of their appointment the day before; registering and checking in patients in a timely manner; preparing necessary documents for the visit; notifying provider of patients’ late arrival; rescheduling or moving late arriving patients when necessary.
  • Schedule appointments; direct walk-ins
  • Register all patients per registration protocols and collect all documentation
  • Review and verify patient coverage of insurance or other agencies and computes the charges to be paid by the patient
  • Collects deposits or co-pays/deductibles prior to the patient being seen by the provider per established policies and procedures. Inform patient of their outstanding balance, collect said balance, and issue receipt when monies are collected
  • Review referral requests for completeness/accuracy and schedule any follow-up appointment as indicated
  • Able to complete referrals and authorizations.
  • Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties; answering patients' questions; maintaining a clean and presentable front office and reception area

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and ICD10 coding procedures
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, medications and injection procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff and management
  • Empathy and willingness to treat all patients with the utmost kindness and consideration
  • Understand HIPAA requirements; maintain and protect patient information

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of Front Office Medical Assistant experience required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an Accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • CPR certification
