Medical Assistant/Floater (Front and Back office)

Part-time hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm Mon/Tues/Fri (flexible)

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a professional demeanor and excellent customer service with patients, providers, outside agencies and management staff.
  • Maintains accurate registration of patient insurance and demographic information in the electronic health record or practice management system.
  • Collects co-payments and patient payments and accurately records and logs all payments received.
  • Verifies insurance eligibility (HMO, PPO, Medicare)
  • Answers phone calls and sends out new appointments and appointment reminders to specific patient populations.
  • Adheres to all patient confidentiality policies and carries out all tasks in a pleasant and respectful manner.
  • Provides helpful answers to inquiries made by patients and staff regarding programs and services offered at Surfside Medical Group
  • Collaborates with back office staff in order to achieve efficient workflow.
  • Collaborates with members of the team to ensure daily patient care productivity goals are met.
  • De-escalates challenging situations that may arise with patients and/or staff.
  • Serves as a resource to staff and providers in the use of the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Answers phone calls, screens callers, relays messages, and greets visitors in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Scans demographic, insurance and medical reports and documents the information into EHR.
  • Completes and prepares various types of administrative medical forms for outside
  • Demonstrate proper infection control measures
  • Communicate well with patients and other caretakers - and be able to explain the purpose of medications to patients/caretakers
  • Room patients, check vitals, assist with procedures
  • Clinic prep assisting with Provider specific protocols
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment
  • Relay instructions from the physician to the patient or authorized person
  • Collect patient data in person and by phone
  • Document patient concerns, messages and care provided in the electronic medical record for the physician's review
  • Administer medications specifically directed by the physician
  • Take complete and accurate messages
  • Route messages to the appropriate area for direction
  • Order and referral entry, acquisition of pre-certifications
  • Set up of cases in Athena plus basic registration and updating of demographics
  • Performs various procedures associated with routine patient encounters, including processing incoming calls for appointments and distribution, directing patients to the clinic, informing patients of clinic procedures, and confirming appointments.
  • Administers medication and vaccinations (with verification of medication and dose prior to administration).
  • Performs skin tests, and performs ear lavage to remove impacted cerumen using a non-invasive technique.
  • Collect specimens, perform EKG and Spirometry testing
  • Ensures lab specimens are correctly obtained and labeled and lab requisitions are correctly completed.
  • Data Collection – Accurately collect and record patient data including height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure, and basic information about the presenting and previous conditions.

Requirements:

  • Front and back office Medical Assistant experience is a must.
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Pleasant attitude, a professional appearance, and a willingness to assign high priority to patient comfort and satisfaction.
  • Experience with Athena EMR system a plus (but not required)
  • Bilingual (English + Spanish) Highly Preferred
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24 per week
