As a Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician, you will:

  • Ensure strict adherence to sterile compounding procedures during the preparation of intravenous medications, chemotherapy agents, and other sterile products.
  • Compound medications under pharmacist supervision, following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and organized compounding area to minimize contamination risks.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of compounding equipment to ensure accuracy and safety.
  • Monitor inventory levels of sterile compounding supplies and initiate reordering when necessary.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including regular inspections and testing of compounded products for sterility and potency.
  • Follow all regulatory requirements and guidelines set forth by governing bodies such as the FDA and USP.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists and healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and timely preparation of sterile medications for patient care.

In addition to sterile compounding responsibilities, you will:

  • Carefully prepare medications of the highest quality to meet individual patient needs.
  • Compound non-sterile medications, such as capsules, oral liquids, topical medications, tablets, or treats.
  • Label prescriptions and prepackage bulk medications as required.
  • Monitor inventory levels and reorder depleted or expiring inventory.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning using appropriate disinfectants and techniques.
  • Conduct environmental monitoring and validation testing according to policies and procedures.
  • Utilize strong attention to detail, math skills, and focus to meet or exceed prescription creation metrics.

    • Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications and supplies using appropriate techniques and following pharmacy policies.
    • Accurately calibrate equipment and maintain pharmacy temperature and cleaning logs.
    • Ensure cleanliness of pharmacy surfaces, laminar flow hoods, and clean rooms.
    • Understand and perform basic pharmaceutical calculations to obtain correct medication doses.
    • Prepare medications accurately under pharmacist supervision, ensuring proper compounding and packing checks.
    • Comply with state and federal laws, maintaining knowledge of available pharmacy services.
    • Maintain patient and proprietary information confidentiality, adhering to legal and ethical guidelines.
    • Understand and comply with HIPAA regulations, participating in medication-related incident reporting.
    • Assist in training and supervising new pharmacy technicians, ensuring compliance with accreditation and safety requirements.
    • Participate in pharmacy department on-call responsibilities as needed.
    • Complete assigned duties as directed by manager or Pharmacist in Charge.

    Requirements:

    • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a customer service-oriented attitude.
    • Current Pharmacy Technician license if required by state.
    • Experience in customer service, meeting quality standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction.
    • Basic Internet Explorer and email skills.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs to assist in stocking medications.
    • 3+ years of experience in compounding medications, with awareness of USP-800 compounding regulations.
    • Multilingual abilities are a plus.

    • Pharmacy Technician Certification (Preferred)
    • PTCB Certification (Preferred)

    Ability to Relocate:

    • Orange, CA: Relocate before starting work (Required)
