Full Job Description

We are currently looking for passionate and enthusiastic Substance Abuse Couselor for our short-term drug and alcohol detox/residential treatment center. Zak’s House specializes in the treatment of those suffering from chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders.

Substance Abuse Counselors at Zak’s House are responsible for performing select duties in support of the clinical process. These responsibilities are providing services to clients with a primary diagnosis of Chemical Dependence, providing individual, family or group therapy and case management. The counselor shall cooperate as a team member in the provision of theraputic environment that encourages each client's emotional growth. The position is expected to maintain an acceptable level of productivity as mesured by effectiveness and treatment outcomes.

  • .MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associates degree or completion of Certification from an NCCA Accredited college of Vocational School in Human Services, Counseling or related fields. Register as an AOD intern by state approved NCCA Accredited Orginization to register and Certified AOD Counselor. Must be State Certified within 1 year of hire.
  • Engages with clients and documents interactions in incident reports.
  • Upholds Zak’s House standards, policies and procedures, client rights, and professional code of ethics and conduct.
  • Facilitates group counseling within individual’s scope of practice
  • Ability to learn, utilize and navigate the EMR system (electronic medical records)
  • Prepare documentation accurately and within agency time frames.
  • Participate in the agency’s orientation training, staff meetings, and in-service training.
  • Maintains a high degree of self-awareness and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Utilizes trauma-informed care while applying crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, and direct supervision to residents.
  • Seeks clinical consultation when encountering new and/or high-risk clinical circumstances.
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the treatment team and communicates any behavioral concerns to the immediate supervisor

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school or GED graduate is required.
  • Preferred to be registered by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP), California Association of DUI Treatment Programs (CADTP), or the California Association of Drug/Alcohol Educators (CAADE) and maintain this certification without interruption
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in the field of behavioral health and/or chemical dependency,
  • Current American Red Cross Adult First Aid, CPR, and AED Completion Certificate
  • Must provide documentation of a TB test within the last year
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
  • Must not be on active parole or probation
  • Pass a comprehensive national and multi-jurisdictional criminal background check
  • Pass a drug screen test
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of industry standards as related to the position of Substance Abuse Counseling
  • Basic knowledge of PC software programs, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and other electronic medical record programs is preferred.
  • Written and oral communication skills; must be able to concentrate on work amid distractions such as noise, conversations, and foot traffic
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision in an unstructured environment with multiple demands
  • Must possess a reading and writing level that provides for clear expression and/or understanding of assignments related to the job description.
  • Ability to represent the program well in interactions both inside and outside the facility.

Must be available to work evening hours, weekends, and holidays

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $23.00-25.00 per hour based on experience and certification
