HIRING SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER COUNSELOR

Position: Substance Use Disorder Counselor

Requirements: Current Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Registration or Certification

Locations: Santa Fe Springs, South Gate and Long Beach

Salary: $21 - $29 per hour (Depending on, registration, certification, education, experience, skillset and hiring site)

Summary: Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor will be responsible for providing direct clinical services to the agency’s outpatient population.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Facilitate individual and group sessions;
  • May co-facilitate as assigned or needed;
  • Facilitate psycho-educational groups;
  • Maintain case load of active clients;
  • Conduct monitored UA testing of clients;
  • Document notes into agency’s EHR within required turnaround time;
  • Uploads documents into SAGE and maintains patient charts in accordance with established agency practices and procedures;
  • Assist in determining client funding eligibility;
  • Prepare client Discharge documentation in accordance with established agency practices and procedures;
  • Comply with confidentiality CFR 42, HIPAA requirements, and mandated reporting;
  • Comply with all agency practices, policies and procedures, including but not limited to CARF requirements;
  • Provide timely and professional responses to internal and external communications;
  • Participate in continuing education, as required by Certifying/Licensing bodies and/or agency;
  • Attend and participate in on-going in-service trainings, staff meetings, and governing agency meetings;
  • Train and supervise interns;
  • Interact with County and State agencies, as required;
  • Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor

Qualifications:

  • A State Certification or Registration in substance abuse counseling and one year of professional experience counseling recovering addicts in a program that has been licensed by the California State Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (Required);
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience preferred. Minimum one year paid substance abuse or social services counseling;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Attention to detail, organized, strong computer skills;
  • Sensitivity towards clients trauma and gender;
  • Ability to work well in a team environment;
  • Maintain a yearly CPR Certification, First Aid Certification, and physical exam;
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Education:

  • AA or B.A. in counseling, social services or related field and/or recognized certified state of California in substance abuse counseling preferred but not required.

Must be able to pass the following pre-employment screenings:

  • Background check, including criminal history (LA CADA considers all applicants equally and will take into account each applicant’s individual life circumstances).
  • Drug and health screen, including negative TB test
  • Employment and education verification

Additionally, L.A. CADA offers HIV / AIDS prevention and intervention services, including HIV testing.
