The Correctional Health Services-Substance Use Disorder (CHS-SUD) program is a collaboration between the Department of Health Services (DHS) and the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department (LASD) and establishes n-custody substance use disorder treatment services at Century Regional Detention Facility (female general population). The CHS-SUD program is built upon evidence-based treatment models that address such issues as substance abuse, trauma, risk for criminal recidivism, and relapse prevention. The program addresses the varied needs of the inmate population, by offering programming focused on SUD education, treatment services with different levels of care, including and group counseling services, case management, and community reintegration.

Responsible for a caseload of female participants with Co-Occurring disorder in a gender responsive treatment environment. In conjunction with client and treatment team, assists participant in developing a goal and action-oriented treatment plan that includes substance abuse recovery skills, strategies for coping with trauma, parenting interventions, family relationship skill building, enhancement of educational skills, health awareness, vocational development, etc. – depending on participant need. Responsible for the delivery of face-to-face activities with the participants.
Responsible for delivery of program orientation, coordinated case management, substance abuse treatment, relapse prevention, and cognitive skill building classes, individual counseling sessions, caseload and process groups, milieu management and crisis intervention as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Part of a multi-disciplinary team, under of the supervision of the Clinical Director and/or Program Manager.
  • Responsible for alcohol/drug use assessments using the ASAM, individualized treatment plans for SUD participants, and delivery of treatment services for participants invoiced in the CHS-SUD program.
  • Facilitate SUD education and treatment counseling in the forms of individual & group counseling sessions and SUD brief interventions.
  • Develops and promotes interest in the substance abuse and/or mental health fields by speaking before community groups or coordinating speakers or resource persons.
  • Monitors and documents participant progress in substance abuse/mental health recovery.
  • Consults with the clinical supervisor and/or program manager on content and process of counseling.
Treatment Planning:
  • Develops individualized treatment plans for SUD participants, and delivery of treatment services for participants involved in CHS-SUD program.
  • Evaluating needs and developing a comprehensive treatment plan.
  • Updates treatment plan as participants progress through phases of treatment.
Caseload Responsibilities:
  • Holds regular individual and group counseling sessions with participants.
  • Encourages participants to capitalize on strengths, develop coping skills and make like changes.
  • Provides assistance with behavior modification through teaching and encouraging participants to utilize program tools.
  • Evaluates participant progress.
Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Maintains safe and gender responsive program environment.
  • Facilitates specialized groups, substance abuse education, relapse prevention and cognitive skill building classes, and workshops.
  • Takes responsibility for all participants as unforeseen situations arise.
  • Communicates with participants’ primary counselors verbally through the staff log.
  • Monitors and documents participant progress in substance abuse/mental health recovery.
  • Consults with the Clinical Supervisor and/or Program Manager on content and process of counseling.
Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience Required:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • SUD certified or registered from a recognized certifying organization, agency, or board evidencing training and expertise in areas appropriate to and related to CHS program elements (CCAPP, CCAADE, or CADTP).
  • Minimum two years experience providing services to MH and/or SUD population.
Background Clearance Required:
  • DHS and LASD clearance.
  • Must not be on parole or probation for minimum of 5 years.
Home base office is in El Monte but position will be working at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood 90% of the time.
