Childhelp is seeking a compassionate, quality-driven Teaching Family Specialist to join our residential programs. This position is responsible for the day to day care and supervision of youth who have a history of trauma and mental health needs.

Your Day to Day:

  • Provides behavioral support to children in residential placement.
  • Teaches prosocial skills to youth, using role playing and real time opportunities to practice skills to promote mastery.
  • Maintains and implements motivation system.
  • Works with treatment team members to develop, implement and review children’s treatment plans and updates.
  • Implements and plans daily schedules and routines for youth.
  • Provides regular and consistent supervision of all children while under care.
  • Actively interacts with residents, develops and maintains constructive relationships, and serves as a positive role model.
  • Oversees and/or participates in various recreational programs and activities with children.
  • Provides for the basic health needs of the children with the assistance of the Childhelp medical staff.
  • Maintains a safe, positive living environment for children to include cleaning and other housekeeping skills.
  • Ensures compliance with all Childhelp policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Drives agency vehicles for the purpose of transporting youth and operating all facets of the treatment program.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience as follows:

High school Diploma/GED AND one of the following:

  • Valid Child Development Teaching Permit.
  • Completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, or Foster and Kinship Care Education and: have a minimum of 100 hours of experience working with youth.
  • Valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth.
  • Valid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating that the individual is a trade journey-person who instructs children in vocational skills and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth as a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, tutor, counselor, or other relevant experience as determined by the department.
  • Minimum of one year of previous experience a full-time direct care staff role, or as a volunteer at a group home, short-term residential therapeutic program, or substance abuse treatment program.
  • Relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver or other relevant experience as determined by the department.
  • Certification in the Childhelp Model within 24 months of hire, and successful completion of annual evaluation for recertification.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the needs of children served in a children’s residential setting.
  • Possess a valid unrestricted driver license.
  • Clear fingerprint background screening through the Department of Justice, FBI and Child Abuse Index.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.62 - $20.00 per hour

  • 10 hour shift
  • 12 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability
