Full Job Description

Alcohol and Drug residential treatment center is seeking full time and part time AMFT level therapists.

Therapists are responsible for his/her caseload and to complete all initial consultations and periodic follow up consultations (individual and/or group) in a timely manner in accordance with insurance company contract guidelines. The therapist is responsible for the initial and appropriate interaction between the program and client’s family. This includes treatment questions and program issues that may be raised by any family member or treatment sponsor. The therapist is required to attend periodic staff meeting for training and for team discussion of each client in the program. These are usually held weekly. The therapist is required to interface with each caseload clients’ counselor to help develop a treatment plan focused on recovery from substance abuse as well as other issues that could be a barrier to clients leading a clean and sober life (i.e. life skills, health/mental health problems, educational/vocational challenges, etc.). The goal of the therapist is to facilitate client's treatment issues and progress while guiding them through each phase of treatment.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • AMFT or MSW level education required
  • EMDR
  • Knowledge of group process, group facilitation, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong reading comprehension with the ability to analyze complex information.
  • Good written and communication skills with proper grammar, good spelling, and legible handwriting.
  • A clear understanding of and the ability to demonstrate professional ethics, boundaries, and judgment.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Time management skills.
  • Ability to handle a diverse population.
  • Knowledge of addiction and the addictive process.
  • Specialized knowledge such as, mental health issues, life skills, vocational training, anger management, incest, criminal behavior, rape crisis, grief, etc.
  • Knowledge of the TC milieu, 12 step philosophy, or other approaches to recovery.
  • A second language (particularly Spanish) is preferred.
  • Computer literacy

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Treatment Planning: In a case conference setting evaluates each client's needs and based upon this evaluation helps develop a treatment plan. Continues working to help update the treatment plan and help determine client’s readiness to move to the next phase of treatment.
  • Caseload Responsibilities: Holds regular individual and group counseling sessions with all clients in caseload. Assists these clients in taking responsibility for their own actions. Reviews “learning experiences”, verbal reprimands, enforced reflection times, and facilitating “confrontations” in an appropriate and positive manner.
  • Administration and Compliance: Assists administrative/counseling staff in meeting internal and external administrative demands. Maintains up to date, accurate paperwork on all clients, and as required, including entering case notes in a timely manner to assist in insurance utilization review.
  • Community Responsibilities: Assists counselors in day to day living issues of clients on therapist caseload. Takes on clients of other therapists when reasonably asked to assist.
  • Role Model: Acts as a role model by following house norms, demonstrating honesty and a willingness to listen to clients’ issues, and taking responsibility for his/her own actions.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs first aid and CPR as required.
  • Covers caseload of absent colleagues when necessary.
  • Serves on committees as assigned.
  • Works rotating schedule as needed.
  • AOD experience preferred
